Initial double letters (glyphs)

Sometimes you will find a double consonant at the start of a word. This is a glyph. We are considering glyphs as an abbreviation for a capital letter.

We use the following tag:

<choice><abbr><am><g>double consonant</g></am></abbr><expan><ex>capital</ex></expan></choice>rest of word

The double consonant falls between <g>...</g>, and the capital letter within the brackets <ex>...</ex>.

Look at the example:

The correct tag for this example is:

<choice><abbr><am><g>ff</g></am></abbr><expan><ex>F</ex></expan></choice>ernando

You are also likely to come across 'rr'and 'ssglyphs:

 glyph ssennalado.png

In the diplomatic version of the final edition you will be able to see that the word starts with a double consonant.

In the edited version you will see this glyph as a capital letter.
