When you have completed the transcription of a folio
When you have completed the transcription of a folio you should first press save. You will find this button at the bottom of the Textual Communities page of each folio.
Then you should press the preview button. This allows Textual Communities' parser to work. The parser checks if you have made any mistakes in your tags. The only tags that the Textual Communities parser will accept as correct are those which the Estoria de Espanna team have told Textual Communities to accept. These are the tags which you have been taught to use on this course, and a few others which appear on the Estoria de Espanna wiki training page called 'Transcription Guidelines'.
If you have not made any mistakes in your tags the page will parse. If it parses, the following box will appear:
This box allows you to choose between the diplomatic view and the edited view, so you can view either the abbreviation marks or the expansions. You can choose between the views by clicking the arrows next to the diplomatic/edited drop-down box.
If you have tagged a scribal change in your transcription you will also be able to choose to view the literal reading (as close as possible to how it appears in the folio), the original reading (how it originally appeared, before the scribal change) or the modified reading (after the scribal change).
It is important to remember that just because a folio parses does not mean that your transcription is entirely correct. What it shows is that you have not made any mistakes in the tagging. All transcribed folios, including those which parse, will be checked by several proof-readers to ensure that the tags, abbreviation marks and expansions are as consistent as possible by all transcribers working on the Estoria de Espanna project.
If your folio does not parse, a box like the one below will show when you click the preview button:
