Reflect and Note
This is a long article with some complex terms introduced about the role of a QTVI! At this stage you should reflect on practice you have seen to date (or indeed been involved with yourself) that involves a child or children with vision impairment to identify and note down for future reference:
A. up to five examples that illustrate the notion of ‘Access to Learning’ for a child or children with vision impairment ie where the child is provided with access to appropriate information in order to learn about a particular curriculum area.
B. up to five examples that illustrate the notion of ‘Learning to access’. Ie where the child is provided with the means by which he or she is able to access information independently
C. Now, with reference to the first set of examples, can you think of ways in which one or more of these could be developed to ensure that over time the child can assume greater independence and is less reliant on others to provide him or her with access?
We will return to this article and the concepts included in it again throughout the course so don’t worry about reading it in detail at this stage!
