It is helpful to think about this module as providing a foundation not so much for the content of the programme, but rather for the distinctive learning experience you will have whilst studying with us. We have found the notion of ‘pedagogic resonance’ helpful as a way of demonstrating the importance of ensuring there is alignment between the various components within your student pathway – so you know why it is you will be undertaking certain activities or asked to study in particular ways. This should help to ensure that from your perspective as a student, there is considered to be ‘resonance’ between our intended learning design, your learning experience and the practices and traditions of the learning discipline into which you are being inducted (i.e. learning to be a specialist teacher of children and young people with vision impairments). The relationship is illustrated in Figure 1.1.

In seeking to ensure ‘pedagogical resonance’ between these components, we think that it is important to find meaningful ways to make our own ‘thinking’ as tutors and learning designers explicit to learners – hence this module!
