Context.

Below are four examples of how minority groups are stigmatised in the UK media.

Tabloid Headline: "4 Million Scrounging Families in Britain."  Tabloid Headline: "1 in 5 Brit Muslims' sympathy for jihadis."  Tabloid Headline: "Get the violent crazies off our streets."  Tabloid Headline: "The Invaders: Sneaky migrants set up tents on French cliffs waiting for boats to smuggle them into Britain to join their mates."

In these examples, people receiving income support are described as 'scroungers', Muslims are portrayed as terrorist sympathisers, people with mental illnesses are described as 'crazies', and migrants and asylum seekers are described as 'sneaky' and 'invaders.'

Your task.

Choose three minority groups who face stigma in society. For each group, list at least three adjectives that are associated with the chosen group that is stigmatising (i.e. an example of prejudicial or negatively stereotyped views).  You can choose groups from the examples below, or choose a group that isn't listed here.

Then write what impacts such stigmatisation may have on people within these groups (for example, social exclusion, poor mental health, access to jobs, etc.).
