CommunityCode of Conduct

We want to make sure that using these resources, and engaging in the activities, is enjoyable for everyone, and that no one feels excluded or unsafe. Online communication is different to a face-to-face setting, as we don't have social cues from body language and tone of voice, so it is important to have some clear rules on how to engage to ensure this is a positive experience for everyone.

To help us to achieve this, and to build an inclusive online community now and throughout your degree we would ask you to stick to the following guidelines:

Code of Conduct

  • Be respectful of others.  This may seem obvious, but it is easier to say things online that we wouldn't say in person.  Please keep in mind the feelings and opinions of others, even if they differ from your own.
  • If you are using humour or sarcasm, use emoticons (but steer away from them in your academic work😉).  Without body language and tone of voice, it can be hard to tell when someone is being funny or being rude.  Make sure that what you say can't be misconstrued.
  • Don't swear, use derogatory language or use ALL CAPS.  Some  people may take offence and misunderstand your intentions.
  • Don't post or share inappropriate material, even privately.
  • Be kind and patient.  Not everyone speaks English as a first language, give people the time and encouragement to communicate their ideas.

Please complete the box below to confirm that you will abide by these guidelines when using this course.
