This video clip from UK television programme The Apprentice demonstrates how a lack of commercial awareness can impact on a candidate's interview success. (The Apprentice is a reality show where budding businesspeople and entrepreneurs compete in challenges set by Lord Alan Sugar in a bid to win a job working for him. In the penultimate stage of the competition the remaining candidates undergo interviews with one of Sugar's trusted aides.)

The interviewer says "it's not unprofessional...it's unprepared".

Joanna was clearly not sufficiently prepared for this job interview, knowing little about the company or her potential employer. Whilst a job interviewer is unlikely to be quite so harsh and persistent, you do not want to be in an awkward position like Joanna. It is best to carry out your research prior to an interview.
