Final Important Skills
Data analysis
Why?
‘Data-driven decision-making skills like business analysis … are essential in today’s workforce. As companies continue to collect and analyse more data than ever before, they need people who can help interpret and take action on that data to drive growth for their business’ (LinkedIn Links to an external site.).
Given the huge impact the pandemic has had on businesses, ‘professionals with data literacy will be even more appealing to prospective employers than ever before’ (Forbes Links to an external site.).
How?
In most postgraduate degrees you will undertake some data analysis, which can be used to demonstrate your abilities in this area. Whilst this skill isn't required at a high level in all roles, some basic ability is advantageous. You can find out more on the Data Analytics page.
Teamwork
Why?
The ability to work well with others is required in almost every job. However, another aspect of this which is growing in importance amongst recruiters and is especially useful in uncertain and challenging times is emotional intelligence (EQ).
EQ 'is a key soft skill for 2021, encompassing such characteristics as empathy, motivation, self-awareness, self-management, and social skills' (LinkedIn Links to an external site.).
‘Individuals with strong EQ will be coveted by organisations of all sizes and in all industries’ (Forbes Links to an external site.).
How?
You will have developed teamwork and collaboration skills during your undergraduate degree and potentially during your postgraduate.
Visit the Teamwork and Collaboration module and the Emotional Intelligence page for more tips, resources and insight.
