For finding information about my studies, I usually go to the library. We have a student IT help desk there, and I usually tell them what I'm looking for and they'll kind of triage me to where to go.
We also have a resource called FindIt@Bham, which is basically all the resources in one and you literally can just type in what you want, and it will tell you where to get it.
I'd lean more onto online resources just because I think it's much more convenient. And our lecturer gives us a reading list every single lecture, and they even give us resources that are recommended to learn from for our studies. And the good thing about university is that there is institutional login, so we get a lot of access to different resources. And that elevates my learning experience.
I usually go for textbooks. If my tutor has given me feedback and I just don't understand the question, then I'll just go and get some reading on that, but we also have journals and archives, so I usually get research papers as well to do my exams on.
Last year we did a module just on films and working with ethnographic film, and that was really interesting because it was a draw away from just reading. As opposed to in college where you're just reading textbooks, you're actually looking at media and analysing the way they would film certain parts or why the creator has done certain things, and that was really interesting.
Also, there are other things like podcasts, which can give you a nice idea about the people you’re reading of. And so yeah, we've used a lot more multimedia than maybe I thought, a lot more than I was used to, which I really, really enjoy because it brings more complexity in the best way. It lets you look at different things than just reading.
When I first came here, we had a whole lecture on finding credible resources, what resources can you use, what we really should stay away from. We also get practice exams. So, I think it's definitely a practise and learn kind of process.
