Abstract:

This workshop builds on previous data in our ‘Student Mindset’ research project, where we investigated student attitudes to learning at the start and the end of their first year at university, across a range of Colleges.

Developing on from earlier iterations of our research - particularly on students’ feelings at the start of their studies (cf our Showcase of Jan 2020) - we explore whether students’ feelings in Sept 2021 were significantly different in light of the pandemic., If so in what ways, and what that might tell us about their readiness to undertake academic work.

Besides considering our own data, we would also like to reflect, within the workshop, on our expectations of this cohort and how we have predominantly viewed them, and then compare our expectations with what students had to say.
