Abstract:

Interdisciplinary teaching and learning has been a topic of interest since the early 20th century. Dr Klein will highlight developments over ensuing decades as a preface to deeper reflection on expanding forms of crossdisciplinary work for 21st century study, work, and citizenship. Traditional forms of interdisciplinary education are being joined by new transdisciplinary approaches to major societal problems that require integrative and collaborative capacity. They are also cross sector, bridging boundaries of academic disciplines and fields, occupational professions, government, industry, and civil society. Examples range from the variety of interdisciplinary fields and centres to movements advancing sustainability, convergence, and team science.
