Abstract

“A challenged world is an alert world. Individually, we're all responsible for our own thoughts and actions - all day, every day. We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women's achievements. Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world. From challenge comes change, so let's all choose to challenge.”

Join us to explore different perspectives of the theme Choose to Challenge on International Women’s Day, 8^th March 2021. We will be joined by:

	Prof Lydia Arnold Professor of Learning and Teaching – Harper Adams University [Profile] Lydia is Professor of Learning and teaching (Educational Development & eLearning) at Harper Adams University, Shropshire, where her role includes the leadership of eLearning provision; leadership of academic development; Course leader for PgC in Teaching & Supporting Learning in Higher Education; Leading the UK PSF provision; Organisation of our annual Learning & Teaching Conference; and, curriculum development
	Dr Amelia Swift Senior Lecturer and Head of Education – Nursing at Birmingham [Profile] Amelia is the Head of Education for Nursing and the Programme Director for the Masters in Nursing (Research and Leadership and Dual Qualification). She teaches widely across the pre-registration programmes and also contributes to post-graduate teaching in her specialist area of pain. Amelia is a champion of technology enhancement and works at Institute level to guide and promote educational enhancement and research.
	Colina Wright CEO – University of Sunderland’s Student Union [Profile] Colina Wright is not only the CEO of the University of Sunderland’s Students’ Union, she is an activist, campaigner, and an advocate for change. She has been selected as one of only a handful of UK women to be accepted for the 2021/22 Jane Slowey Memorial Membership. It is an honour for Colina who, in her role with Sunderland SU, hopes to provide both students and staff at the SU with unique opportunities to challenge themselves and take control of their own future.
	Dr Jennifer Leigh Senior Lecturer in Higher Education and Academic Practice – University of Kent [Profile] Jennifer initially trained as a chemist, teacher, and somatic movement therapist. Her research weaves together threads of embodiment, reflective practice, identity, academic practice, ableism and inclusivity, creative research methods and development in higher education. She edited a book Conversations on Embodiment in Higher Education: Teaching, practice and research for Routledge, and is co-editor on Theorising Ableism in Academia with Nicole Brown @drschniff @AbleismAcademia. She is also Vice-Chair of WISC, an international network for women in supramolecular chemistry. and the group are involved in several projects that are aiming to increase the retention and progression of women in science. WISC has taken a field-specific approach to 'call-in' the communtiy to support women and those who are marginalised, as well as involving me as in 'insider' social scientist.
