It won't come as a surprise that digital skills are crucial in the world of work.

Why?

Digital literacy is the ability to use information and communication technologies to find, evaluate, create and communicate information, as well as being aware of the limitations, dangers and precautions that the use of technology requires.

'As the world of work has evolved into a more technological- and online-centric enterprise, businesses are searching for employees that can easily fit into this new work model' (Forbes Links to an external site.).

It can also be useful to develop some specific technical skills. Therefore the ability to code, develop machine learning models, harness the power of AI, utilise blockchain, develop websites or design cloud systems would make you a highly desirable valuable employee.

How?

Depending on your discipline, you may develop advanced coding, programming or other technical skills during your postgraduate degree. These will not be required in all job roles, and so are not necessary for everyone, but developing your digital literacy, or digital fluency, will be advantageous in all careers.
