You could keep a 'glossary of terms' for each topic, together with a definition, to make sure you use these words consistently and correctly in your assignment
Take note of commonly used phrases that you would like to incorporate into your own academic writing. Using common phrases is not plagiarism - it's talking the talk!
Take note of how, and when your scholars refer to the work of other writers in their field, or primary data
- how do they make it clear what their own view is on the topic in question?
- how do they acknowledge the work of others?
  - when do they quote and when do they summarise or paraphrase?
  - how do they introduce this secondary material into their own prose?
  - how do they compare different writers' perspectives?

If you look carefully at the learning outcomes, you can see what your tutors are looking for when they mark your work.
If these are not provided, then just think strategically about the content of your lectures and seminars.
A good response to an assignment should demonstrate (unsurprisingly, maybe) that you were there - for example:
- You could take notes on the kinds of questions asked, definitions of the terminology used, and common phrases that keep appearing in the lectures, seminars, and the reading materials you are given
- When you read the rubric for your assignment, you might well recognise it as one of these areas of research or debate, so you can contextualise your answer with reference to the literature, and 'join the conversation'

When you are reading, try to take note of how academics and successful students write in your discipline, not only what they write.
