Writing about your practice

Before we start

Before watching this recording, have a look at these two units from an earlier module on this course if you haven't already seen them

You will see that I have picked up on 'Brookfield's 4 lenses' to illustrate this page. He gives four distinct lenses through which you can view your practice:

- your own reflection
- feedback from your tutors*
- feedback from your peers*
- and lastly theory **

*You may not have feedback from your group, or from your tutors, but you could try explaining what you would like to write about to a critical friend, or one of your tutors, to see if they have comments or questions that would help you broaden your perspective, or clarify your ideas.

*I have also added two more sources of inspiration for your reflections: other productions of your piece, if it's not your own creation, and recorded interviews with the playwright, or other practitioners.

**And don't forget your reading and seminar discussions. Any assessment is designed to see if you can apply what you have learned on your module, in this case to your own practice!

Points for reflection

What have you gleaned so far about writing up your 'practical' modules on an undergraduate course? Adam says it's a University course, not Drama School? What does he mean?
What did you think about Pablo's animated illustrations for his talk? Can you express in words what he wanted to convey by including them?
- try freewriting a sentence or two to get your ideas out onto the page
- or try speaking into your phone and recording your thoughts
- which do you find easier, in terms of trying out ideas and fixing on a final version?
